Alternative Apparel's design and development teams were challenged to infuse the brand's fabric portfolio with a greater use of environmentally-friendly fibers. We identified recycled cotton, organic cotton, hemp, modal, and recycled polyester for their sustainable qualities and employed them in creating soft, comfortable fabrics with a fresh feel. Working closely with our vendors over several development seasons, we optimized these new fabrics, ultimately using a contemporary color palette and brand-new styles to showcase them. The response from both wholesale and retail customers was incredibly positive, with these styles adding an exciting update to our core product range. Personally, I learned a great deal more about sustainable fiber development, and I enjoyed the creative challenge of blending trend-driven design with environmental responsibility.
